Position Summary
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Marine Engine Mechanic to join our service team. The Marine Engine Mechanic will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining marine engines and related systems, ensuring safe and efficient vessel operation. This role requires technical expertise in both inboard and outboard engines, a strong mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair inboard, outboard, and stern-drive marine engines.
- Service and maintain fuel systems, cooling systems, transmissions, and propulsion systems.
- Troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues in marine engines and auxiliary equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, and tune-ups.
- Conduct engine overhauls, rebuilds, and component replacements as required.
- Use diagnostic tools and manufacturer software for troubleshooting and system calibration.
- Install, align, and repair propellers, shafts, and engine mounts.
- Maintain detailed records of work performed, parts used, and service recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations in all repair and maintenance activities.
- Provide technical support and advice to customers regarding proper engine care and performance optimization.
Qualifications & Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training in marine mechanics strongly preferred.
- Proven experience as a Marine Engine Mechanic or similar role in marine service.
- Strong knowledge of gasoline and diesel marine engines, propulsion systems, and auxiliary components.
- Ability to read and interpret engine manuals, schematics, and service bulletins.
- Skilled in the use of diagnostic equipment, precision tools, and engine testing systems.
- Proficient in troubleshooting and problem-solving under minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality workmanship.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to work in confined spaces and lift heavy components.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Certifications
- American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) or equivalent certification.
- Manufacturer-specific training (e.g., Mercury, Yamaha, Volvo Penta, Caterpillar, Cummins).
- OSHA or marine safety training.
Working Conditions
- Work performed in a service shop, marina, or onboard vessels.
- Exposure to water, weather conditions, fuel, lubricants, and engine noise.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
- May involve extended hours, weekends, or emergency service calls.
